Truth Is Scarier Than Fiction

The story behind The Tiger’s Tail is based on a very disturbing fact: The 40 + million people that live and work along the East Coast of the United States are under the constant threat of a sudden catastrophe.

Time Magazine ® ran a cover story on tsunamis in 2005, explaining that scientists believe that the collapse of a major part of La Palma island – should the volcano ‘El Cumbre Vieja’ erupt again – is entirely possible.  The article states: “In the Canary Islands, the western slope of the Cumbre Vieja volcano poses a threat to Atlantic coastlines. Should it collapse, a scientist from University College London warned last week, the big splash would send tsunamis coursing through the Atlantic at hundreds of miles an hour. According to one nightmare scenario, cities up and down the East Coast would be swamped by waves as tall as five-story buildings.”

In the BBC show Mega-tsunami: Wave of Destruction, Professor Bill McGuire of the Benfield Greig Hazard Research Center had this to say about the destruction a volcanic eruption on La Palma could cause the United States:  ”It’s inconceivable how much damage this event will cause and yet the general public knows absolutely nothing about it.”

FACT: Scientists predict that should the volcano on La Palma Island erupt once more, the resulting landslide would be the equivalent of Manhattan Island falling into the ocean, causing a mega-tsunami that would eventually engulf the entire Eastern Seaboard of the United States, killing millions. Of course, a volcanic eruption isn’t the only way to cause a landslide…

Scrambling to make sense of the impossible, Tom and Melissa are devastated to learn how events from their past have created an enemy with an unstoppable quest for revenge.
